Economic worries help obama

In Wisconsin Obama has recently been shown to have a minor but definite lead in a state which has been very close in the past. Obama was shown to have a great lead in Madison and Milwaukee, both areas that have been typically democrat but he has been taking a lead in the Fox River Valley which has been a Republican stronghold for decades. However due to the economic troubles many Fox River Valley residents have been pushed to the democratic side, feeling that Obama will do more or has explained himself better then McCain. But other residents still want to hear more and Wisconsin still promises to be a battleground state worth fighting for.

I've also been hearing this lately. People seem to be switching to Democratic, because of this economic downturn. This has struck me as odd, as I don't usually think of democrats being better economically.

I think it is interesting that relatively transient issues, such as the economic downturn in the last few weeks or the Russia-Georgia conflict, can have such large impacts on a presidential race in which the candidate will be in office for four years. Therefore, the candidate will be doing a lot more than just working on the problems in today's headlines. Also, in response to Sean's comment, I think that economic issues cause people to vote democratic not because they are better off economically, but because they have more faith in Obama's economic policies than in McCain's.

I have also been hearing alot about people turning to democrats for economic help these days. I'm not 100% sure I agree with this but then again I understand Kathrine's comment about how more people trust Obama's policies more then McCain's. This makes alot of scene because our economy has gone so down hill since Bush was in office.
